How to Calculate Marketplace Fees
Marketplace fees are charges deducted from a seller's transaction. These may include platform commissions, payment processing charges and fixed transaction fees.
Marketplace Fee Formula
Marketplace Fee = Selling Price × Marketplace Fee Rate
Payment Fee = Selling Price × Payment Fee Rate
Total Selling Fees = Marketplace Fee + Payment Fee + Fixed Fee
Net Profit = Selling Price − Total Costs
Example Calculation
Suppose you sell a product for $100 with the following costs:
- Product cost: $40
- Marketplace fee: 10% ($10)
- Payment fee: 3% ($3)
- Fixed fee: $1
- Packaging: $2
- Seller-paid shipping: $5
Total costs are $61, leaving a net profit of $39 and a net profit margin of 39%.
Important Notes
This estimate includes only the costs entered above. It does not automatically include taxes, advertising, returns, refunds, storage, labor or other operating expenses. The estimated profit is therefore not a complete accounting profit figure.
Marketplace and payment percentage fees are assumed to apply to the full selling price. Actual provider fee rules may differ.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are marketplace fees?
Marketplace fees are charges imposed by an online selling platform for facilitating transactions or providing selling services.
Are marketplace fees the same on every platform?
No. Fees vary by platform, product category, seller program, transaction type and country. Always check your platform's current fee schedule.
Does this calculator include shipping costs?
Yes. You can enter shipping costs paid by the seller. Shipping paid entirely by the buyer should not be included as a seller expense.
How is break-even selling price calculated?
It estimates the selling price needed to cover product cost, packaging, seller-paid shipping, fixed transaction fee and percentage-based fees entered in this calculator. It is a cost-coverage estimate, not a guarantee of profitability after other business expenses.
Note: This calculator assumes marketplace and payment fees are both charged on the full selling price. Actual platform fee rules may differ.
